All vehicles built since 1994 for sale in North America use R134A refrigerant in place of the R12 refrigerant previously used in automotive A/C systems. R12 is harmful to the earth’s atmospheric ozone layer, while R134A is not. Most complaints about A/C operation in the summer concern a lack of cooling. Many things can cause this condition, but the major cause is a refrigerant leak. Fixing the problem requires finding the leak, evacuating and cleaning the system, repairing the leak and recharging the system. At AutoSmarto, we use our state-of-the-art, fully automated A/C equipment for recovery, recycling and recharging. Our government licensed and certified technicians provide superb service for your vehicle’s A/C system. We repair air conditioning lines too!
Alignment problems can cause an off center steering wheel, front end vibrations or noises, vehicle pulling to one side or uneven tire wear.
If you experience any of these symptoms while driving, stop by AutoSmarto for a front end inspection.
Our technicians use state-of-the-art computerized alignment systems equipped with a software package that features advanced imaging technology to deliver fast and accurate alignment.
Think your car battery is dying? Warning signs to replace your vehicle’s battery include:

Antilock brake systems (ABS) are an important safety feature that has become standard on most of today’s automobiles. ABS consists of two subsystems:
- All the parts of conventional brake system; pads shoes rotors and so on
- The ABS controller (computer), its associated sensors (inputs) actuators (outputs), wiring and connectors.
The computer receives an input signal from the wheel sensors which monitors the speed of each wheel, then compares it with the other wheels. If the comparison indicates any wheel lockup, the computer sends specific commands to the valves to raise or lower the hydraulic pressure to that wheel to prevent skid. All of this goes unnoticed by the driver unless a component fault is detected by the computer and the “BRAKE” or the ABS light comes on.
Don’t wait until the last second to get your brakes checked/serviced! Our technicians pay close attention to every aspect of your vehicle’s brake system when they inspect to make sure your vehicle is running safely.
At AutoSmarto, we carry a wide range of brake parts, from high-end to economy level in order to suit every budget out there. Take these following steps and make sure your brakes are inspected on a regular basis:
- Check brake fluid level every 20,000 km or 12 months
- Change brake fluid every 50,000 km to 70,000 km
- Check pads, shoes, drums and rotors every 20,000 km

In addition to performing its traditional function of directing hazardous gases safely away from the vehicle’s occupants and reducing exhaust noises to regulatory levels, the exhaust system has become a primary component in reducing automotive emissions and has key components to reduce any roaring sounds from underneath the vehicle.
Indications of an exhaust problem could be:
- When your vehicle makes a louder noise than usual
- Any rattling underneath the vehicle
- An increase in fuel consumption
- If you smell an odd/unusual odour (including a burning scent)
Stop by AutoSmarto for an inspection if you encounter any of these key indicators or if you’re growing wary of your exhaust’s condition!

Heating & Cooling
It is a must to have an efficient heating and cooling system in our country’s unpredictable harsh winter and blazing summer conditions. The heating and cooling system in a vehicle consists of many parts such as the water pump, thermostat, radiator, hoses, heater core, etc. To ensure proper working conditions and to prevent unexpected breakdowns the system should be checked periodically, especially before, during, and after the seasons change.
Tips to maintain the system:
- Check the vehicle’s antifreeze level at least once a year
- Some vehicle manufacturers recommend cooling system fluid to be replaced every 2 years
- Check belts and hoses every 50,000 km or every 4 years
At AutoSmarto we prepare you and your vehicle for any upcoming season. Contact us for more information!
Our extreme temperatures definitely cause havoc with metal. In addition, salt on the roads as well as the road conditions could all lead to your vehicle showing signs of aging, rust, which will undermine the structural integrity and negatively affect the appearance of your vehicle and overall reduce its value.
To protect your vehicle, stop by AutoSmarto and have your vehicle rust proofed.

Steering & Suspension
Your vehicle’s steering and suspension systems are key components that allow you to drive comfortably and maneuver efficiently. When your vehicle’s power steering is working properly, you are in more control of the vehicle, allowing your maneuvers to be more responsive, hence a safer ride. The suspension system is quite absorbent to any bumps, potholes, as well as sudden stops. If these systems are properly maintained, your vehicle will allow you to enjoy a much smoother ride as oppose to if they weren’t.
The steering system consists of the steering wheel, steering column, track rods, tie rods, and steering arm. The suspension system is made up of the chassis or frame, springs or struts, arms and axles, and sway or torsion bars. These essential components are worked hard and impacted often when driving so it is important to maintain them and have the systems feel and drive smoothly.
Signs that a component in one of these systems needs to be serviced or replaced:
- Difficult/loose steering
- Steering wheel vibrates/shakes
- Unordinary noises when making a turn
- Vehicle pulling to one side
- Bouncing over bumps
- Dips when committing any sudden stops
If you suspect your vehicle is showing any one of these signs, bring it to AutoSmarto where one of our qualified technicians will inspect these systems’ key components for you.
Tires are the only thing between you and the road. The way your vehicle drives and sounds on the road has a lot to do with the kind of tires you have on your vehicle. For your convenience and to accommodate various budgets, we carry a wide range of brand name tires such as Goodyear, Pirelli, Michelin, Toyo, and many more. The most suitable tire size is the one recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
AutoSmarto’s certified technicians will visually inspect your tires and check the air pressure with every oil change. Remember that your tires need to be rotated every 10,000-15,000 kilometres to ensure uniform wear.
If your tires need to be replaced or repaired, stop by AutoSmarto and our team will get you back on the road in no time
Changing your transmission’s fluid and flushing the transmission is important maintenance for your vehicle’s health – that’s why vehicle manufacturers recommend regularly scheduled transmission service. At AutoSmarto we check transmission fluid periodically and recommend transmission service (change fluid, filter & gasket) when it’s needed, in order to keep your vehicle running in good condition. When servicing your transmission we use the recommendations from the vehicle manufacturer to ensure all specifications.
Fluid Change Recommendations:
- Changing manual transmission (transaxle) and differential fluid every 45,000 km
- Changing automatic transmission fluid and filter every 80,000 km
